ABOUT ME

A driven and hardworking individual who is currently working as a Content Editor.

I have a strong interest in feature writing and am wanting to dive into the specialism of writing about mental health and wellbeing and capturing personal experiences. I also have experience with advocacy and campaigning on social media and have documented my own mental health story through my Instagram and other social channels. I am also passionate about LGBTQ+ issues, the arts and amplifying untold stories and unheard voices.

Media, Communications and PR are also other arenas in which I have developed skills. I have a strong understanding of brand awareness and audience engagement.

I created a column with Empoword Journalism. Let Me Sexplain is a sexual education column focusing on all of the information that you should know but didn't learn in school. It aims to be an open and honest platform and a safe space for candid conversations around sexual education and health.

Welcome To Let Me Sexplain!

A Student's Guide To Being Sober

YADA is back again with a positively worth-the-wait type of blog that won’t disappoint…

Sober student, Amelia Hopkinson, also the Mental Health Awareness Officer at the University of Derby shares her very empowering tips to becoming a sober student.

University. The prime time of your life where studying often takes a backseat. Clubbing, parties and most importantly alcohol becomes many students’ focus. However, how important is alcohol when you want to have a good time?

I have been sober for

Examples of some articles, PR plans and written pieces of creative work that I have made.

"Amelia was clearly destined for great things in the industry from her first day with us. We’ve taken great pride in seeing her go from strength to strength since she left. During her time with us she was naturally able, but receptive to feedback and advice. She was self motived, but worked well as part of the team when required. Given the remote nature of the role, trust is vital, Amelia never gave me any issues in this regard. She would be a treasured asset to any team."

- Joshua Smith

Owner of Derbyshire Media Company

"Amelia worked as an intern for the award-winning London based brand and communications agency Unity. Her first test was working remotely, due to the pandemic, with a team she has never met and in a new industry. A test she passed with flying colours. Amelia’s resilience runs deep, and she was unfazed in putting her thoughts forward, sharing her ideas or adding to the debate in our (many!) online work meetings. She represented herself as a strong addition to the team and was a positive and dynamic force amongst our cohort of graduate trainees (who started at the same time as her). Whether it was researching for new business pitches, writing, supporting on social or joining in on brainstorms, Amelia showed a quick mind, ready wit and a real understanding of what a public relations office requires. Amelia made the most of every opportunity, and I wholeheartedly recommend her for any team considering her. An absolute asset."

- Sophy Norris

Managing Director at Unity

"Amelia is a conscientious, skilled and adaptable operator. She's a great example of someone who has embraced all sides of the media and can work effectively over a range of journalistic platforms.
She is open to learning new skills and constantly works on taking on feedback and developing herself. She finds creative solutions. She never ceases to amaze me with the amount of knowledge she has acquired in a relatively short period of time. She is efficient, calm, self-reflective, reliable and tenacious - everything you would want in a media professional.
Amelia has always shown great care in her work. Her integrity is admirable, as is her passion for equality, diversity and inclusion, which are crucial in the industry. It was my pleasure to have taught her at university, where I immediately spotted the potential she has and I know she will go on to achieve greater and greater things.
To summarise, she is a dedicated and enthusiastic journalist who will be an asset to any company she works for."
